Akemi Villa is a Japanese-influenced tropical residence in Cemagi, Bali, whose name means “bright beauty” in Japanese. The design synthesizes Japanese spatial minimalism with Balinese tropical openness, creating interiors of serene precision that open onto the lush, unmanicured landscape of Cemagi’s coastal rice field corridor.
Akemi Villa explores the surprising harmony between Japanese and Balinese architectural traditions — both cultures share a reverence for nature, craft, and spiritual space. The design uses sliding screens and flexible partitions drawn from Japanese residential architecture, while the open pavilions and garden orientation are purely Balinese. The result is a villa of extraordinary calm, where every surface, every joint, every threshold has been considered with the precision of a Japanese tea house and the warmth of a Balinese home.
